Hampden Bancorp lauded by Boston Club

SPRINGFIELD — Hampden Bancorp, the parent company of Hampden Bank, was recognized by The Boston Club as one of the leading New England companies having two or more women serve on its board of directors.

This recognition, reserved for those organizations dedicated to the advancement of women to top leadership positions, was recently presented at the Club's annual Corporate Salute in Marblehead, Mass.

"We are especially proud of this recognition in that it confirms what we have always believed that leadership is leadership regardless of gender," Glenn S. Welch, president and COO of Hampden Bank and board member of Hampden Bancorp Inc., said.

"We are also extremely proud of the women who serve in key leadership positions including our senior management team and throughout our entire organization," he added.

Hampden Bancorp Inc. has 11 members on its board of directors, five of whom are women and include: Judith E. Kennedy, Kathleen O'Brien Moore, Arlene Putnam, Mary Ellen Scott, and Linda M. Silva Thompson.

Additional board members include: Thomas R. Burton, vice chair, Richard J. Kos, Stanley Kowalski Jr., Richard D. Suski, Glenn S. Welch, and Stuart F. Young Jr., chair of the Board.

The Boston Club is one of the largest communities of women executives and professional leaders in the Northeast. They are both a club and a cause. As a club, they offer programming, events and other opportunities for leaders of advanced professional stages and backgrounds to connect with, engage with and enrich each other.

As a cause, their mission is to impel the advancement of women to top leadership positions.

Their core belief is that more women in significant and visible leadership roles will mean better business performance and strengthened economic health in communities.
