HBA offering green building accreditation course

SPRINGFIELD The Home Builders Association of Western Massachusetts will be sponsoring a National Green Building Certification Accredited Verifiers Course, Session I on Nov. 19 from 8 am. to noon and a Builders Overview of the Green Builder Certification Program, Session II on Nov. 19 from 1 to 5 p.m. Both classes will meet at the HBA headquarters at 240 Cadwell Dr.

The NAHB Research Center is the sole certifying body responsible for training and accrediting individuals to verify that homes meet the criteria of the national green build certification. To become an accredited verifier an individual must fill out and submit an online Verifier application; meet eligibility prerequisites; take the verifier training; pay the $125 Verifier Accreditation fee; take and pass the online test; and submit paperwork for accreditation and listing on the Web site. Class size is limited and you must register on-line by Nov. 12 in order to take the class at www.nahbgreen.org/certification/becomeverifierapp.aspx. The cost of the class is $35 for HBA members or $60 for non-members and includes lunch at noon.

Also offered on Nov. 19 following the verifiers session will be a Builder Overview of the Green Builder Certification Program. This session is free of charge if you have attended the morning class. A fee of $10 for HBA members will apply if you did not attend the morning session and $20 for non-members with lunch included stating at noon. Class size is limited and there are no prerequisites for this class. You must contact the Home Builders Association of Western Mass. at 733-3126 to register for this program.
