Date: 1/4/2010

LONGMEADOW "Commun-icating in a Digital Age" is the focus of the upcoming Hot Topics in Philanthropy Breakfast hosted by Bay Path College. Non-profit professionals are invited to this free event, which will discuss co-mmunication in today's digital environment, and provide practical tools and applications for non-profit organizations. The breakfast is scheduled for Jan. 8 from 7:30 to 10 a.m. in the Blake Student Commons on the Longmeadow campus.

Today's digital landscape has been dubbed Web 2.0, referring to the second generation of Internet tools and Web development and design. More than ever, the digital landscape is seamlessly integrated with on-demand TV, phone, Internet, social networking, streaming videos, blogs, Twitter and so much more. The Hot Topics presentation will examine the use of these new communication tools; the relevance of traditional communication tools; the need to go digital and online; and publicizing an organization's good work in a cost-effective manner that targets all segments of this market.

Keynote speaker Brian Reich, managing director of little m media and author of "Media Rules! Mastering Today's Tech-nology to Connect with and Keep Your Audience," will provide a framework for understanding the technology driven environment and how best to harness the appropriate digital tools to communicate an organization's mission, vision and purpose. Panelists Suzi Craig, director of marketing at Fathom, and Megan Pete, director of development of the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, will also share their organizational challenges and successes related to this topic.

The breakfast is free, but registration is necessary. To register, visit www.baypath.edu or call (800) 782-7284 ext. 1056.
