JGS honors dedicated employees

LONGMEADOW " Jewish Geriatric Services (JGS) employees were honored recently for their hard work and dedication at an employee awards ceremony held at the Julian J. Leavitt Family Jewish Nursing Home.
This recognition included those who have been recognized for exceptional service with the President s Award and employees who have reached five-year increments in their time at JGS with the tenure award for years of service, as well as those who have completed their first year with the company.
Jessica Brown of Ware, Helen LeClair of Ludlow and Cheryl Gumlaw of Springfield were named as recipients of the prestigious President s Award.
The President s Award was established in 2000 to recognize employees throughout the JGS campus for their high level of care and service on behalf of elders. Nominations are made by those who are served by JGS, their families or employees and are chosen by a committee of their peers.
Brown has worked at the Julian J. Leavitt Family Jewish Nursing Home for almost half of her 31 years; first coming to the Home as a student from Springfield s Putnam Vocational High School. Brown is a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and received more than one nomination from family members of those she serves.
LeClair has been a reimbursement clerk at Spectrum Home Health and Hospice Care for seven years. This is detailed, paperwork centered assignment which involves her mathematical skills; LeClair is, however, also a people person. She was nominated by several coworkers who are inspired by her strong work ethic and her cheerful attitude.
Gumlaw has worked as an activity assistant at the Julian J. Leavitt Family Jewish Nursing Home for almost two years. She has a bright smile, friendly demeanor and exudes energy.
In addition to these honorees, 20 JGS employees were nominated for this recognition. They include: Linda Bartlett, Johnetta Bonilla, Kathleen DiCarlo, Colleen Douglas, Stephanie Drouin, Frances Fitzgerald, Ana Guzman, Patricia Harrington, Sheila Hayes, Risa Knight, Malgorzata Lasiuk, Laurie O Grady, Marilyn Potter, Betzaida Quijano, Donna Racette, Elaine Regnier, Lisa Robinson, Ellen Shapiro, Eileen Shea and Ava Wills.
Another group of employees were feted for their years of service. Those with the longest tenure included: Carmen Stewart for her 25 years of service; and Bryan Flagg, Ashley Lyons and Barbara Macdonald for their 20 years of service as Jewish Geriatric Services employees.
