Date: 5/26/2009

The Home Building Association (HBA) of Western Massachusetts is pleased to announce that the HBA of Massachusetts has selected Raymond E. Laplante to receive the Legend of the Industry Award at its annual awards night, taking place at Boston Symphony Hall on June 16. The Legend Award is given annually by the State Association to an individual that exemplifies excellence in the home building industry, has made significant contributions to the industry through professionalism and generous community service over the course of their professional career and has been a member of the building industry for minimum of 30 years.

Laplante, owner of R.E. Laplante Construction Inc., has been a staunch advocate of quality housing for nearly five decades. He is very supportive of community endeavors as well. He has been responsible for the refurbishment of cabins and buildings at the Springfield Boys Club summer camp, building permanent dugouts for the baseball diamond at East Longmeadow High School and building storage sheds for the soccer fields in Wilbraham. When Sgt. Mark Ecker of East Longmeadow returned from Iraq as a double amputee, Ray immediately built a ramp at his home for easier mobility.
