Learn about social networking, blogs and netiquette at JCC workshops

SPRINGFIELD The Springfield JCC will host a seminar titled "Social Networking 101: Intro to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIN and More," on Oct. 28 from 6:30 to 9 p.m., 1160 Dickinson St. in Springfield. This program is free of charge; however, pre-registration is required by stopping by the JCC or calling 739-4715.

It is part of the Urgent Economic Response Program, which is a joint program of the Jewish Federation of Western Mass., Jewish Family Service of Western Mass., and the Springfield Jewish Community Center. Everyone is welcome.

This program will introduce you to the most popular social networks and provide an overview of their personality and purpose. Instructor Marlene Gavens is a Web 2.0, Internet and Social Networking Consultant.

Those interested in the social networking seminar may also be interested in an upcoming program titled "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Blogging" on Nov. 11 and 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Springfield JCC. Individuals may sign up for part one, "Blogging Basics," or part two, "Better Blogging," for a cost of $20 for JCC members; $30 for the general public. The cost for the two-part series is $35 for JCC members; $50 for the general public.

Blogging (short for Web logging) has become a popular way for people to post their feelings, thoughts and observations for others to read. Join us to learn more about this popular means of communication. Instructor Tish Grier is the community developer for Placeblogger.com and a social media consultant.

On Dec. 1 from 7 to 9 p.m., a "Netiquette (E-mail Etiquette)" seminar will be offered at the Springfield JCC. Although e-mail has transformed the way we communicate, it has serious pitfalls. This lively, interactive class will focus on the "dos and don'ts" of e-mail messaging and will provide you with practical guidelines to improve your e-mail messages. The cost is $20 for JCC members; $30 for the general public. Instructor Susan Kline of Susan Kline Business Communications has been a communications consultant to many companies and colleges for 25 years. She has published numerous articles about effective communication.

These programs and others are made possible through Life Lessons: The William & Margery Sadowsky Center for Adult Learning at the Springfield JCC, which offers cultural, social, educational and recreational programming aimed towards adults seeking to develop new skills, challenge mind and body, explore new areas, meet new people or simply have fun.
