Local Chambers of Commerce consider consolidation, will meet May 21

EAST LONGMEADOW The East Longmeadow/Longmeadow Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has called a special meeting of the membership of the Chamber to vote on consolidating with the Hampden/Wilbraham and Ludlow Chambers of Commerce effective July 1. The Chamber's Board of Directors has voted unanimously for this consolidation because they believe that the sharing of ideas between members and communities on issues of importance to the local business community would be facilitated by this consolidation. Issues including Commercial Real Estate Taxes, zoning, signage and traffic are very similar in the Chamber communities to be consolidated.

Chamber President Dawn Starks of Acres Power Equipment believes that "bigger networking opportunities for our members will be one result of this consolidation and more one-on-one member contact will be provided given that more time will be freed-up from administrative duties of running three organizations."

This special meeting of the membership will take place May 21 at 8 a.m. at Elmcrest County Club in East Longmeadow, for each Chamber member to vote on the consolidation. Members who are unable to attend this special meeting can vote by proxy.
