Martel earns Leadership Institute Award

SPRINGFIELD " Attorney David Martel of Longmeadow, a partner in the firm of Doherty, Wallace, Pillsbury & Murphy P.C., has been honored with the Leadership Institute s Community Service Award for exceptional commitment and selflessness to the Greater Springfield community.

The Leadership Institute is sponsored by the Affiliated Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield and the award is given out annually at the organization s graduation ceremony, which recently took place in Springfield.

Prior to beginning his law career, Martel worked as a newspaper reporter, first in Springfield and then in Washington, D.C. Martel began practicing law in 1973 at a firm in New York City and remains a member of the New York Bar. He joined Doherty, Wallace, Pillsbury & Murphy in 1981. He practices in the areas of municipal law, land use, zoning and conservation, real estate and general business.

Martel s community involvements are many. He initiated and has managed the law firm s tutoring program at Springfield s Boland School, is a trustee of the Springfield Public Forum, a trustee of the Richard Storrs Library in Longmeadow and is a past president of the Center for Human Development. He has been actively involved in mentoring for many years and his mentee, Melvin, is now in his twenties and works as a pharmacist s assistant. The two continue to stay in touch with each other.
