Non-profits generating an income

SPRINGFIELD Is it OK for a non-profit to generate income? You bet it is! That's the only way a non-profit tax exempt business can continue to do its good work. Income can come from making and selling products as well as from donations. The number of non-profit companies in Massachusetts has grown substantially in the last 15 years. In fact, they are now the largest employer in the state of Massachusetts. "How To Startup And Operate A Non-Profit" is the subject of this SCORE workshop. Whether you are thinking about starting a non-profit or you are already operating a new one, you will benefit by attending.

The workshop facilitator, Dave Wentworth, is a successful businessman and a SCORE counselor. Wentworth has developed and presented a number of well rated SCORE workshops, covering both non-profit and for profit small business topics. He provides counseling for many of SCORE's non-profit clients. Wentworth's business experience includes senior management responsibilities with major companies as CEO and in sales, product management and consulting.

Major topics to be covered include startup, organizing and operating your non-profit, strategic planning, business planning, applying for tax exempt status, organization for fundraising, grant writing, board member selection and the recruiting and management of volunteers.

This SCORE workshop will be held Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Scibelli Enterprise Center, One Federal Street, Springfield, across from the STCC Campus. You must pre-register by calling 785-0314 to leave your name and phone number. There is a $25 fee to cover the cost of materials that will be handed out to attendees.
