WILBRAHAM — Robin Odentz purchased the Spectacle Shoppe of Wilbraham from the Murphy Family in 1986. Odentz was trained under his father, a registered optician, and then finished his training in Holyoke, becoming a registered optician in 1976.

He worked in several optical shops in Holyoke before buying the Spectacle Shoppe. It became a family affair when his dad, Milton, retired and worked part time for his son, as did his mother, who worked in the office. He began the store at Crane Park and moved to the present location in 1992.

Odentz takes pride in the products he dispenses. His mantra is “If it’s not right, you don’t get it.” He also take pride in the fact that he is recommended by many big box businesses for his quality repair work. Very few optical dispensaries do repair work.

The importance of the registered optician is the proper interpretation of the doctor’s prescription, for the lenses ordered and then the proper fitting of the glasses to the patient’s face.

A. Odentz resides in Longmeadow with his wife and two sons.
