Date: 3/6/2013

SPRINGFIELD – The Association of Public Television Stations (APTS) has elected Russell J. Peotter, General Manager of WGBY, to serve a three-year term on its board of directors. In an announcement on Feb. 19, the Nominating Committee confirmed the election of Peotter, along with four other professional directors and three lay directors to the national organization's board.

Established in 1979, APTS is a nonprofit organization based in Arlington, Va. Its mission is "to conduct – in concert with member stations – advocacy, planning, research and communications activities in order to achieve strong and financially sound noncommercial television and advanced digital services for the American people," according to its website.

"I'm honored to have been elected to this role," Peotter said. "At this especially critical time, it's humbling to help APTS advocate for the essential role public media plays in our society. And I very much look forward to serving alongside the incredibly talented industry colleagues who lead and guide this organization as both staff and volunteers."

The APTS Board Nominating Committee invited nominations from APTS members around the country, who submitted names of candidates they believed would "provide direction to the advocacy, planning, research, and communications representational work performed by APTS on behalf of member stations."

Peotter was recognized as a new board member during APTS' annual membership meeting on Feb. 25 at the Hyatt Regency in Arlington, Va.
