PVPC hosts Smart Growth

PVPC to host Smart Growth forum

The Pioneer Valley Planning Commission will host "Building Better: A Regional Forum on Public-Private Partnerships for Smarter Growth" June 7, 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Holyoke Community College's Kittredge Center, Room 301. The free public workshop is designed for community planners and officials, builders and developers, bankers and financing experts, and anyone interested in smart growth in his or her community.

The forum aims to promote implementation of Valley Vision, the region's new smart growth land use plan, by highlighting opportunities for effective public-private partnerships that can achieve better growth and development in the Pioneer Valley. Presenters will identify potential smart growth locations and projects in the region that need matches of developers, community officials, and financing sources to move forward. Panelists will discuss ideas for smart growth projects that could begin construction within the next two to three years, but may lack one or more essential elements to get underway. Financial experts will explains how they can contribute to enabling smart growth projects.

The forum is free and open to the public. Pre-register by June 2 by contacting PVPC planner Pam Howland at 781-6045 or by e-mail at phowland@pvpc.org.
