Rogeness appointed to women's health committee

State Rep. Mary Rogeness
BOSTON State Rep. Mary Rogeness has been appointed to serve on a Special Commission created by the legislature to study health care for women in Western Massachusetts. The commission is scheduled to host its first meeting on Jan. 30 at Western New England College.

The 13-member commission will focus on investigating the accessibility and quality of doctors specializing in obstetric, gynecological and neurosurgical care of women in Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire counties.

In addition to Rogeness, members of the commission will include the commissioners of public health, insurance and MassHealth, the executive director of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine, doctors and other state legislators.

House Minority Leader Brad Jones appointed Rogeness to the commission, stating, "As a representative and resident of Hampden County, Mary is a natural fit for the commission. Her knowledge and familiarity with the needs of women in western Massachusetts will be a valuable asset."

The commission was created in Chapter 61 of last year's legislative session. According to the statute, it will "report to the general court the results of its investigation and study, and its recommendations, if any, together with drafts of legislation necessary to carry its recommendations into effect" to the house and senate.
