Ryan and Whitman appointed to Habitat board

SPRINGFIELD Greater Springfield Habitat for Humanity (GSHFH) has announced the appointment of Attorney Timothy J. Ryan and Michael Whitman as members of the Board of Directors.

"Tim and Mike will be great assets to our organization," stated Steve Gelling, Executive Director of GSHFH. "Their energy and experience will go a long way toward supporting our efforts to help rebuild the City of Homes one new home at a time."

Ryan, an attorney with Ryan and Downey P.C. and a lifelong resident of Springfield, served as an elected member of the Springfield City Council from 1994-2003 and as the Chairman of the Springfield Board of Police Commissioners from 2004-2005.

"I have a strong attachment to the City of Springfield," noted Ryan, "and I am interested in helping Springfield fulfill its mission of building affordable housing for low and moderate income residents."

Whitman resides in West Springfield and is Vice President of Commercial Lending at Florence Savings Bank. Whitman has worked in banking for over a decade and believes that his experience will be helpful to GSHFH.

"My profession and Habitat's mission dovetail nicely," stated Whitman. "Both are working to reinvest in the community. Springfield is the hub of this area, and when Springfield flourishes so do the surrounding cities and towns."
