STCC partners with HBA, offers a variety of new workshops for June

With the goal of enhancing career training opportunities for HBA members, the Center for Business and Technology at Springfield Technical Community College has partnered with the Home Builders Association (HBA) of Western Massachusetts to set up a co-branded STCC/HBA Web site offering a variety of computer-based training program geared to the construction industry.

Hundreds of very affordable, web-based courses are available including: Successful Construction Management; Quickbooks 2007 for Contractors; Mastery of Business Fundamentals; and Workers Compensation.

Courses run for a full eight weeks and a new session will begin each month. These very affordable, instructor-facilitated classes are engaging and highly interactive with new content that is evenly paced through 12 lessons. The paced schedule provides each student with the flexibility to study at his/her own pace, 24/7, with enough structure and support to complete the course.

Individuals are able to access hundreds of web-based courses at www.ed2go.com/stcc-pro and the Center for Business and Technology can set up a co-branded Web site that will provide hundreds of training programs for employees or members at no cost to the sponsoring company/organization. GED Preparation begins June 10, Small Office/Home Office PC Repair begins June 10, Smart Boating Safety Certification begins June 10 and VoiceOvers: Getting Paid to Talk begins June 11.

The center also offers authorized training for Microsoft and Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) certifications as well as a wide range of information technology (IT) certification programs including A+, Network+, i-Net+, Linux+, Server+ and Cisco.

The Center for Business and Technology at Springfield Technical Community College recently announced the availability of a web-based program that is designed to prepare individuals to enter careers as medical coders and billers. The series of six online courses ranges from basic to advanced medical coding and is open to individuals interested in gaining insurance coding skills for an entry-level position, to the coder who desires educational enrichment through earning CEUs, and to the coder who is preparing for the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) Certification Exam.

Medical Coders work in hospitals, physician offices, insurance companies and at home on a freelance basis. Individuals who successfully complete the certification exam after completion of the training program will be known as Certified Professional Coders, using the credential "CPC" after their name.

Courses will begin soon and interested individuals are invited to call the center at 755-4225 or 755-4502 to request a detailed brochure.
