STCC will again offer Nurse Aid, CPR training

SPRINGFIELD The employment of certified nurse aides (CNA) is projected to grow at a rate of 19 percent, faster than average, according to the U.S. department of Labor (DOL) which projects the addition of 279,600 CNA positions over the next decade.

One hundred percent of the students who most recently completed the Certified Nurse Aide program at Springfield Technical College (STCC) passed the state certification exam and the Center for Business and Technology at STCC will offer the evening Nurse Aide and CPR certificate program again during the upcoming term. This program is designed to provide participants with job skills that will allow entry into the health care field as well as preparation for the Massachusetts state board examination to become a CNA.

Classes will be conducted two to three nights per week and clinical experience will take place during late afternoon, evening, and/or weekends in a local nursing home under the supervision of registered nurse (RN) instructors. Major topics will include vital signs, moving and turning patients, personal care basics, bed making, bed, bath and feeding, record keeping and responding to emergencies.

Applications are now being accepted for the next program and space is limited.

The Center for Business and Technology also offers a wide variety of other entry-level health career programs including phlebotomy, pharmacy technician, EKG technician, emergency medical technician, medical and community interpreting, veterinary assistant, medical coding and billing and medical transcription.
