Tighe & Bond announces scholarship recipients

WESTFIELD – In business for 101 years, Tighe & Bond Inc. has always believed in supporting the community and giving back to the youth. Through the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, Tighe & Bond Inc. awarded its yearly scholarships to three local college students pursuing engineering degrees.

According to David Pinsky, president of the civil and environmental engineering firm, "Tighe & Bond firmly believes in the importance of higher education for promising students who have the desire to pursue degrees in engineering. It also offers us a tangible way to support the future of the engineering practice, which is essential to problem solving and the well being of our society."

Johnniel Gomez, a 2012 graduate of Roger L. Putnam Vocational High School, is the recipient of the Philip W. Sheridan – Tighe & Bond Scholarship. This scholarship honors the memory of a former president of the firm whose experience included a distinguished 46-year career at Tighe & Bond. Gomez will attend the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in the fall to study civil engineering.

Jason Arble, a 2012 graduate of Holyoke High School, is the recipient of the Edward J. Bayon Memorial Scholarship that Tighe & Bond established in memory of another one of its past presidents. With an astounding GPA of 4.03, Arble plans to study electrical engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the fall.

Aaron Sabbs, a 2009 graduate of South Hadley High School, is a recipient of the George H. McDonnell Scholarship for the fourth year running.

Tighe & Bond established this scholarship in memory of yet another one of its past presidents. Sabbs will be a senior at Worcester Polytechnic Institute this fall, where he is majoring in civil engineering and carries a GPA of 3.51.
