Unemployment Tax Control Associates mark 25 years

Date: 6/11/2015

SPRINGFIELD – Unemployment Tax Control Associates Inc. (UTCA), a national unemployment insurance service provider based in Springfield, with an office in Boston and Houston, Texas, recently celebrated a quarter of a century in operation with a 25th anniversary and client appreciation party May 27.

The event at One Financial Plaza included a distinguished guest list comprised of clients, business owners, presidents and CEOs of several local and national companies.

The company has a long and well-established reputation for its success in a niche and complex area of administrative law, generating bottom-line revenue through dramatic reductions in unemployment cost, while delivering consistent “soft savings” to their client users, through a more efficient and compliant program.

“For over two decades, we have helped employers anticipate and avoid cost-generating unemployment insurance issues that could result in additional liability and drain resources,” Suzanne Murphy, CEO and founder of UTCA, said. “Companies committed to utilizing the strategies we offer can realize cumulative savings in seven-figure amounts in actual tax dollars, depending on their payroll size.”

Founded by Murphy in 1990, UTCA utilizes a unique pre-emptive approach to dramatically reducing unemployment costs. Where other service providers (TPAs) have been acquired by a larger, publicly traded group and those with a primary focus on software and big-data upselling, service levels have diminished greatly. Employers wanting to outsource their unemployment program, where professionals with expertise effectively managing this cost, are left with limited options. UTCA prides itself on offering highly customized, proactive strategies and services, through a hybrid blend of technology and fully accessible expertise.

The Association for Community Living in Springfield was UTCA’s first client and has worked with the company for their entire 25 years in business, according to Executive Director Barbara Pilarcik.

“We had met Suzanne just prior to her decision to start her own company and were so impressed with her intelligence, interpersonal skills and client focus that we signed on with UTCA when she opened her doors for business,” Pilarcik said. “We have encountered many situations together and while each one may seem different, there has been one constant throughout the past 25 years and that is the high quality of service that UTCA provides.”

A leader in unemployment insurance, Murphy pioneered key metrics and underwriting formulas widely respected for accurately identifying risk factors and predicting cost/saving outcomes for clients. Murphy’s company also launched a revolutionary Claims Management Application, providing the client user with unprecedented transparency and the ability to track the status of each claim, through their on-line system.  Custom reporting can be accessed on a 24/7/365 basis anywhere the client has web access.

“Managing people is a complex business and we know we can trust that UTCA will give us good advice, will help us through a difficult situation and will work with us so that we learn to avoid problems in the first place.  It is the strength of their long-term commitment to their clients that has kept us coming back year after year,” said Pilarcik. “They have saved us money, but more importantly, they have made us a better employer and helped us to ensure that our employees are fairly treated and supported to do their best. Given the dynamics of today’s human resources, it is not easy to keep a customer satisfied for 25 years, but we hold UTCA in high regard and are delighted to be not only their first customer but their longest.”
