WNEC accepting applications for business assistance for fall 2010

Date: 7/5/2010

SPRINGFIELD -- The Western New England College Law and Business Center for Advancing Entrepreneurship is now accepting applications from entrepreneurs and small business owners seeking assistance for the Fall 2010 semester.

Under faculty supervision, law students assist clients with legal issues including choice of entity, employment policies, contract drafting, regulatory compliance, and intellectual property issues relating to trademark and copyright. Business students consult with clients regarding general management issues as well as market assessment and direct marketing techniques. This is a free service available to local businesses that would not otherwise have the resources to obtain these types of services.

"In the first seven years of its existence, the Small Business Clinic at Western New England has assisted more than 100 small businesses," Eric Gouvin, director of the Law and Business Center, said. "The clinic is a great resource for entrepreneurs who lack the finances to retain an attorney."

The Law and Business Center asks small businesses to submit their applications by July 15. Applications received after that date will be considered if additional resources are available. Students will begin providing services Aug. 23.
