BHN’s Mastriana honored posthumouslyDate: 10/27/2016 SPRINGFIELD – The Association for Behavioral Healthcare (ABH), at its Annual Celebration of Excellence on Oct. 21, has recognized posthumously a Behavioral Health Network (BHN) employee, Meg Mastriana, with an Excellence in Best Practices award. Mastriana, who passed away in August 2016, worked at BHN as its leader of Crisis Services for more than 25 years and most recently developed BHN’s program The Living Room.
This award spotlights Mastriana’s leadership for bringing a unique and successful program model to the community that has improved the lives of so many over the past year.
Located in Springfield, The Living Room is a 24/7 peer-supported recovery environment for those experiencing a developing crisis, a current crisis or post-crisis situation.
The Living Room is a recovery model that provides a more appealing alternative to Emergency Room utilization and psychiatric hospitalization by promoting a more natural, person-centered environment. Participation in the program is voluntary.
In its first year of operation, The Living Room helped 924 guests work through their crisis, without having to use the Emergency Room.
In total, 1,615 guests made 5,325 visits to The Living Room during the year.
