HealthSouth receives recognition for brain injury rehabDate: 7/28/2016 LUDLOW – HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Western Massachusetts has earned certification for Disease-Specific Care in brain injury rehabilitation. The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval was awarded to the hospital for its compliance with the organization’s national standards for healthcare quality and safety in disease-specific care.
“Our focus is to serve the needs of the western Massachusetts community,” John Hunt, CEO of HealthSouth Western Massachusetts, said. “Our staff works to provide a higher level of care and offer services that return patients to their optimal level of independence.
By choosing to have The Joint Commission evaluate our brain injury rehabilitation program, we are making a significant investment in quality on a day-to-day basis.”
To earn the certification, HealthSouth Western Massachusetts underwent a rigorous on-site survey on May 21. A surveyor with expertise in the care of patients with neurological issues from The Joint Commission evaluated the hospital’s brain injury rehabilitation program for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients and families, including the provision and quality of care, medical staff, leadership and medication management.
The Joint Commission’s Disease-Specific Care Certification Program, launched in 2002, is designed to evaluate clinical programs across the continuum of care. Certification requirements address three core areas: compliance with consensus-based national standards; effective use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care; and an organized approach to performance measurement and improvement activities.
Founded in 1951, The Joint Commission seeks to continuously improve health care for the public, in collaboration with other stakeholders, by evaluating health care organizations and inspiring them to excel in providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value.
The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits more than 18,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States.
