Local chiropractor launches second product to address back painDate: 8/25/2020 EAST LONGMEADOW – Need a back massage but don’t have anyone to help you out? An area chiropractor just may have the solution for you.
Dr. Roland Berthiaume is continuing his mission to help people address back pain with a new device. He explained to Reminder Publishing the success of his LoBak Trax, a device that allows people to stretch out their spine, was the motivation to develop a new treatment device that allows a person to massage his or her back to help relieve soft tissue pain.
“I’ve always tried to find the easiest way to solve complex problems. Most home exercise or pain relief products are made for athletic people, ignoring the people who need them most, the older or out of shape people who are in pain (like me). I want empower those people to address their issues at home in an easier way,” Berthiaume explained.
He said there are products on the market that utilize rollers to massage the back. He said the problem, besides getting up and down from the floor, was putting too much pressure on the targeted area or sliding off the rollers.
The E-Z Bak Massager is the product of two years of development, he noted.
His E-Z Bak Massager allows a person to stand up and massage one’s own back. Berthiaume’s system brings the rollers to where they are needed. Each E-Z Bak Massager had a metal plate that is attached securely to a wall. There are six balls that can roll and can be moved to where a person needs relief – from the neck to the lower spine. A person simply leans into the rollers while standing and moves against them.
He said his original design had the device use a sticky pad to hold it to the wall, but it proved inadequate. Adding a screw mount allowed it to be firmly attached.
“Once we did that, this thing works so well,” Berthiaume said.
Berthiaume’s LoBak Trax was developed with his business partner, the late Thomas Valentine. He had the support of Lori Greiner, of “Shark Tank” and QVC fame, who featured it on her programs.
Because of COVD-19, Greiner has placed her QVC show on “indefinite hiatus,” Berthiaume explained. Rather than seek out a new partner, Berthiaume decided to jumpstart sales of the new product with a Kickstarter campaign.
Greiner showed great interest in the new product but then COVID-19 hit. That slowed down the manufacturing process, which is based in China.
The Kickstarter effort is designed to raise awareness of the product and garner enough orders to start the manufacturing process. As with his first product, Berthiaume want to keep the price affordable for the average person and is seeking a cost of $49.99.
E-Z Bak Massager is being offered at a special cost through the Kickstarter at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ez-bak/ez-bak-massager.
