Mercy Medical Center recognized by SCORE for defect-free careDate: 8/7/2013 SPRINGFIELD – Mercy Medical Center has received the Defect-free Care Award from the Stroke Collaborative Reaching for Excellence (SCORE), a voluntary statewide quality improvement collaborative administered by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) that supports Primary Stroke Service hospitals. Defect-free is achieved when a patient receives the appropriate care based on clinical guidelines.
The SCORE Defect-free Care Award recognizes hospitals that provide high quality care to 80 percent or more of their stroke patients from October 2011 to September 2012. The number of SCORE hospitals providing defect-free care to the majority of their patients has increased significantly over the last four years, resulting in many more patients receiving high quality care. Stroke is third-leading cause of death in the Commonwealth, and a leading cause of adult disability. Immediate assessment and treatment are critical to help improve outcomes.

In 2012, Mercy Medical Center received the Get With The Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association. The award recognizes Mercy’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted guidelines.
