| The shelves are nearly empty at Open Pantry's Emergency Food Pantry and we are seeking help from the community. Open Pantry needs people to host food drives.|
"Summertime is especially hard for people because the kids are out of school. The cost of food tends to put a huge strain on people's finances. We see many families at the Food Pantry during the summer months," says Candace Larger, Program Director.
"We hope people will organize food drives in their neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, or with groups that meet regularly, like civic associations," says Kevin J. Noonan, Executive Director. "If each person attending a meeting brought a food item or two, it would be a big help."
Food staples such as rice, pasta, spaghetti sauce, dry milk, juice, soups, peanut butter, snacks and meal helpers are especially needed right now. Open Pantry does have refrigerators and freezers and can also accept items like meats, milk, eggs and cheese.
Simple steps to hosting a food drive and a food drive flyer can be found at www.openpantry.org Food donations can be brought to Old First Church in Court Square, downtown Springfield. If necessary, arrangements for a pickup can be made by contacting Larger at 737-5353 or email@example.com
