Yoga Kids teaches children to let go of daily stresses
Laura Mushenko, owner of Garden of Om Yoga teaches the YogaKids program to children throughout the area. Laura trained directly with nationally recognized founder of YogaKids, Marsha Wenig. Laura is dedicated to The YogaKids Program and is currently continuing her studies within The YogaKids Advanced Certification Program.
The core philosophy of YogaKids is to bring yoga to children with an educational context. The interventions are based on Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences Theory. The poses act as pathways to enhance learning. There are fourteen elements incorporated within the classes: Poses as Pathways, Body Benefits, Bridge of Diamonds, Brain Balance, Ecological Echoes, Math Medley, Musical Musings, We All Win, Awesome Anatomy, Reading Comes Alive, Laughing Language, Visual Vignettes, Affirmations and Quiet Quests. Classes are fun, playful, active, imaginative and inspiring. They include storytelling, music and creative arts. This makes YogaKids the ultimate learning adventure.
Garden of Om Yoga realizes children's stresses: children overbooked with organized activities, high academic demands and other social anxiety issues. YogaKids offers techniques incorporating relaxation, visualization, stress relief and breathing to give children a chance to let go of the stress they feel in their lives. The simplicity of this ancient practice of yoga can be applied and brought to our 21st century and its children. The ability to calm oneself is a skill that will benefit a person from childhood to old age.
Garden of Om Yoga offers 6-week sessions for ages groups of 3-5 yr, 5-7 yr, 6-9 yr 8-11 yr, and 10-13 yr old children. They also offer private classes for individuals as well as group classes for special occasions. Classes are held at Garden of Om Yoga of Monson, Bliss Yoga of Wilbraham and Heartsong Yoga of East Longmeadow.
