A call for contestants for the 2011 Miss Mass. Teen Pageant

FALL RIVER — Applications are now being accepted from young ladies interested in competing to become Miss Massachusetts' Outstanding Teen 2011 at the pageant on April 10. The winner of the pageant will have the opportunity to compete in the Miss America's Outstanding Teen Pageant in Orlando, Fla. on Aug. 20.

Last year's winner, Kendall Wipff of Andover, was the Commonwealth's representative at the national competition. She recently returned from the Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas where she was featured in a production number performed by 46 state Outstanding Teen titleholders with the reigning Miss America's Outstanding Teen, Lacey Russ of Oklahoma, during the pageant's preliminary competition show.

Contestants will compete in talent, eveningwear, on-stage interview, private interview, scholastic and lifestyle and fitness categories. The winner will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship, crown, trophy, banner, entry fee and airfare to the national competition and other gifts and prizes. Additional awards will be awarded to the runner-ups and also to recognize community service, scholastic and academic achievement.

The Miss Massachusetts' Outstanding Teen Pageant is open to teenagers from throughout the state, from ages 13 to 17. Contestants who are 17 cannot be more that a current high school junior. The deadline for entries is March 10. A mandatory contestant orientation will take place on March 27 for pre-pageant preparation and to learn production numbers for the show.

The competition will take place on April 10 at the Keith Middle School on Hathaway Boulevard in New Bedford. The pageant will begin at 6 p.m. The pageant is an official preliminary to the Miss America's Outstanding Teen Pageant and is affiliated with the Miss Massachusetts Scholarship Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
