Bay Path to host girls-only summer programs

LONGMEADOW " Bay Path is offering six separate summer programs designed specifically for girls and young women. Based on the Longmeadow campus, the programs use the college facilities and are led by Bay Path College students, faculty or staff. This year s programs include Animation Matters!, Film Matters!, Girls in Trees!, GoGirls!, Illustration Matters! and It s MY Business! Animation Matters! is a morning, week-long, introductory program that will teach students the basics of digital animation. If you are interested in learning how movies like Wall-E and Ratatouille were made and want to hang with girls your own age, this half-day program is for you. The July 6 through 10 program will meet from 8:30 a.m. to noon and is for young women entering sixth, seventh and eighth grade. The Aug. 3 through 7 program will meet from 8:30 a.m. to noon and is for young women in high school.

For young women ages 13 to 15, Bay Path offers Film Matters!, a one-week hands-on workshop focusing on all aspects of video and film production. Geared towards the budding filmmaker, environmentalist, conservationist or artist, this program will focus on creating a 30-minute documentary. The program is offered the week of Aug. 3 through 7.

Girls in Trees!, a summer discovery program designed to build confidence, leadership skills and promote teamwork, will meet on the college s private ropes course in the trees of south campus. This exciting program will take place from July 20 through 24 for young women ages 13 to 15, and from July 27 through 31 for young women ages eight to 12.

GoGirls!, a summer discovery program for young girls between ages five and 12, and will meet during the weeks of June 22 through 26 and July 6 through 10. The program features arts, theater, computers, sports and team games. In this fun-filled and action packed program, girls build a sense of confidence and accomplishments that will make this program a lifelong experience. The week concludes with The Big Show, a popular variety show giving each girl the opportunity to be on stage and perform with a group or individually.

Illustration Matters! is an afternoon, week-long program that will teach students the basics of drawing from nature and how to transfer two-dimensional images into electronic images for use as biological and scientific illustrations. The program will meet from 1 to 4 p.m. July 6 through 10 for young women entering sixth, seventh and eighth grade, and from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 3 through 7 for young women in high school.

Now in its third year, It s MY Business! gives young women, entering grades 10 through 12 the opportunity to master the theory and practice of entrepreneurship and earn two college credits. This highly creative and interactive program will guide participants through the steps of taking a business idea and turning into a reality. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with and learn directly from local entrepreneurs, business people, and business faculty members. The program will meet July 20 through 24.
