Bethany's Children's Choir takes to the airwaves in April

Date: 3/21/2011

SPRINGFIELD — Bethany's Children's Choir is taking a special journey this spring thanks to WGBY.

In December of 2010, the choir received word that Springfield's WGBY was putting together a series about choral music in Western New England. Groups were invited to apply and audition for an opportunity to be part of this special event.

The choir, under the direction of Rick and Marilee Boothe, submitted a video audition tape and was selected to be part of the series titled, "Together in Song: A Celebration of Choral Music in Western New England."

Bethany's Children's Choir is scheduled to be a part of the series on April 16 at 8:30 p.m. on WGBY. There will be judges for each Saturday presentation through April 16, as well as audience participation in voting.

"These kids love to sing and they bring a tremendous amount of energy and enthusiasm to every performance. They recently sang at Mt. St. Vincent's Nursing Home in Holyoke and we look forward to singing at the Agawam Senior Center in April. We want to be able to bring the love of Jesus into the community wherever we go. These young children are excited about doing just that," Rev. Chuck Heimann, children's pastor at Bethany Assembly of God in Agawam, said.

The choir has approximately 45 members ranging in age from 5 to 12.

"The children, parents and volunteers were all very excited to be a part of this excellent cele-bration of music. To be in a TV studio and see what takes place in front of the cameras has been a wonderfully fun time for the children," Heimann said. .
