East Longmeadow Library to host special December events

Date: 11/23/2009

EAST LONGMEADOW The East Longmeadow Public Library is hosting a variety of special events during the month of December.

Giving Tree

Please consider giving a new toy to one of 90 homeless children at the Family Place Shelter. To help brighten a child's holiday just pick a gift tag off the Giving Tree and buy a gift suitable for the age and gender of the child chosen (suggestions are on the tag). Bring the unwrapped gift to the Children's Department. Please have the gifts here by Dec. 14 so the toys may be picked up in time for their holiday party. Your generosity will allow a child who would have had nothing for Christmas experience the joy of the holiday.

We will also accept hats, mittens, scarves and other warm items for the shelter all month.

Winter Session Storytimes

Registrations for winter session storytimes will begin Dec. 16 at 9:30 a.m. (call in registrations will be accepted at 10 a.m.). We will host registration for all sessions of story-times. On Dec. 17 anyone may register as space permits. The sessions are as follows:

Monday at 1 p.m and Tuesday at 10 a.m. Preschool Storytime, an independent storytime for children aged 3.5 to six

Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Parents and Twos Together, a storytime for two to 3.5 year olds and their caregivers with simple stories, flannel board stories, music, finger-plays and a craft will be featured around a theme of the week. Register early as spaces are limited to 14 for each day.

Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Pajama Night Drop-in Storytime; no registration is necessary! Just drop-in for this evening storytime for children ages three to six.

Friday at 10 a.m. Crawl Talk for infants, through age two. This program is designed to let babies crawl and moms talk. Music, toys and board books will be provided. On the first session of the month Attain Sports will present Mom & Me, an exercise program. No registration is necessary, just stop by and enjoy.

Holiday Story & Craft

On Dec. 14 from 4 to 5 p.m., children of any age are invited to attend a special holiday storytime and craft. Get into the holiday spirit with some good stories and good cheer! Refreshments will be served. Please register, as space and materials are limited.
