Jewish Community Center presents Jewish Living program

SPRINGFIELD Rabbi Amy Wallk Katz gets asked the following questions fairly frequently: Rabbi, what are you doing for young families? Now she feels she has an answer: Quality parallel learning experiences for parents and children of all ages.

With the Florence Melton Foundation of Jewish Living program, Sunday mornings at the Springfield Jewish Community Center (JCC) will be full of fun, learning, song and spirit.

With Katz, parents will study core values in Judaism and the master stories that reflect those values. This is not a how to or parenting class. It is an opportunity for parents to consider the ways that Jewish values can impact their home.

While parents are studying with Katz, children experience the best of Jewish music, art and the PJ Library (www.pjlibrary.org) in an adjacent room.

After class, parents and children can compare what they learned.

Children of all ages are welcome to enroll. Babysitting is also available. In addition to the parallel learning opportunities, there will be social events for the participating families, including a Shabbat pot luck, Havdalah, and some holiday celebrations.

This 20-week course will begin on Oct. 3 and will meet on Sunday mornings from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. at the JCC, 1160 Dickinson St.

Registration per family is $180 plus a $36 materials fee. Financial subsidies are available upon request.

While classes do not begin until Oct. 3, join in on Sept. 12 from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. at the JCC for a taste. Refreshments will be served.
