Local people graduate college, receive military assignments

UMass Darthmouth Graduate

Nicholas Dassatti received his degree magna cum laude during the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth undergraduate commencement on May 22. A total of 1589 graduates received degrees that day. UMass System President Jack Wilson delivered the commencement address.



Fitchburg University Graduate

Peter M. Lurgio of Westfield received a certificate of advanced graduate studies in educational l eadership and management during the graduate commencement exercises at Fitchburg State University on May 19.



Nicholls Posted in New York

Army Sgt. Patrick J. Nicholls has been assigned to duty at the Watervliet Arsenal, N.Y. Nicholls, a recruiter with six years of military service, is assigned to the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion. He is the son of William Nicholls of North Main St., South Hadley, and Deborah Griffin of Stephen St., Chicopee. The sergeant graduated in 2004 from Agawam High School.



UMass Dartmouth Graduate

Megan Gauthier of West Springfield received a master of arts in teaching degree at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth graduate commencement on May 21. More than 500 graduates received degrees during that ceremony. Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Roderick Ireland delivered the commencement address. The ceremony also featured the historic first graduating class of the University of Massachusetts School of Law-Dartmouth.



Fitchburg University Graduate

Amanda J. Vinsant of Agawam received a master’s degree in counseling during the graduate commencement exercises at Fitchburg State University on May 19.
