Lupien asks for support to become a leader for tomorrow

Catherine Lupien
Catherine Lupien, age 10, daughter of Susan Lupien of Springfield and Peter Lupien of Westfield, has been recognized as an outstanding student and leader, and has been invited to return to the 2008 National Young Scholars Program (NYSP) taking place this summer.

Catherine is an honor student in the fifth grade at SABIS International Charter School in Springfield. In addition to her scholastic achievement, she plays piano, sings with the Children's Chorus of Springfield and is a member of St. Cecilia's parish in Wilbraham where she is an altar server and greeter. She also recently received her yellow belt from the U.S. Tae Kwon Do Center in Wilbraham.

NYSP will provide Catherine an "unparalleled opportunity to learn and apply new concepts in an accelerated, interactive, and intellectually stimulating environment outside the school classroom." Catherine has been selected to attend this special program which acknowledges young leadership and offers motivation for continuing academic excellence to young scholars for the second year in a row.

After last year's attendance, both family and teachers noticed the impact that it had upon Catherine and how it enhanced the development of her leadership skills. Immediately upon her return, Catherine's problem solving skills were noted to have reached new heights in everyday living. Once back at school, she was able to confidently implement conflict resolutions with two different bullying situations at school. She has been selected as a prefect in her classroom, and also assists with math teaching in her former first grade teacher's classroom.

Her fifth grade teacher noted that "Catherine demonstrates exceptional leadership skills in motivating groups of peers to work at their best" and she "shows great diligence in pursuing personal and academic goals. She continues to set the standard for academic achievement."

The NYSP is sponsored by the National Centre for Early Academic Excellence; an independent educational organization dedicated to the early identification, motivation and inspiration for America's most promising elementary school students. In order for Catherine to participate, she must raise $2,300 for this unique opportunity to be hosted at Union College in Albany, N.Y. Anyone wishing to invest in Catherine and the future of the country, by assisting her in attending this program, can send their gift payable to Catherine Lupien, directly to Peoples' Bank, 1900 Wilbraham Rd., Springfield, MA 01119, where a special account has been created for her.

All gifts will be greatly appreciated and acknowledged by Catherine. Upon completion of this program, Catherine will receive an official NYSP Certificate of Achievement. If more information is needed about this unique opportunity, please call 783-6494.
