MacDuffie offers scholarship program for children of area college and Baystate Health employees

Date: 5/30/2010

SPRINGFIELD The MacDuffie School, a co-educational college preparatory school for grades six through 12, founded in 1890 and located in the historic Maple Hill district of Springfield, is pleased to offer a unique opportunity for children of full-time employees at 11 area colleges and those of Baystate Health employees who apply for admission to MacDuffie beginning in September 2010.

The MacDuffie Tuition Scholarship Program will offer eligible children of full-time college or Baystate Health employees a scholarship of $1,500 per year ($1,000 for siblings).

"In recognition of our shared goal of achieving academic excellence, we are offering a tuition 'break' to the children of full-time employees of 11 area colleges: American International College, Amherst College, Bay Path College, Elms College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, the University of Massachusetts, Westfield State College and Western New England College," said Linda Keating, director of admissions at MacDuffie. "Applicants must qualify for acceptance through the regular application process or be a current student in good standing (B average, effort grades of 2 or above)."

Keating indicated that the same offer was being extended to the children of Baystate Health employees because of "Baystate's significant contributions to the Greater Springfield community." "Students do not need to qualify for need-based financial aid to be eligible [for this program]," she said, "and families requiring additional assistance may apply for need-based financial aid. Applicants must be students who demonstrate characteristics exemplified in the school's mission: high academic standards, intellectual habits of mind and respect for diversity."

In addition, the scholarship/discount is renewable each year through graduation for students enrolled at MacDuffie in good academic standing.
