MassMutual awards 50 scholarships in 2007

Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) announced 50 recipients of college scholarships as part of its 2007 MassMutual Scholars program.

Under the program, MassMutual offers 25 $7,000 scholarships to high school seniors in Hampden County (Mass.) and Hartford County (CT), for a total of 50 scholarships annually. As long as students maintain a "B" average or better each year in college, the scholarships will renew automatically, giving students the potential to receive $28,000 over their four years in college.

"MassMutual feels that investing in the education of today's youth is a wise endeavor, as they are the future leaders of tomorrow," said Trish Robinson, senior vice president, Strategic Communications and Community Responsibility, MassMutual. "We are proud to recognize these bright, hard-working and deserving students as they enter the next phase of their academic careers, and we wish them the best in the future."

Students applied for the scholarship this spring through the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, which coordinates and administers the program. Scholarship recipients were selected based on academic performance, financial need and character.
