Melton adult classes enter third year

SPRINGFIELD — Following two extremely successful years, Melton Year One classes are again being offered this fall.

The Florence Melton Adult Mini-School is a comprehensive adult education program, sponsored in Springfield by Temple Beth El, Springfield Jewish Community Center (JCC), Jewish Federation of Western Massachusetts and Jewish Endowment Foundation, which includes the following curriculum:

• Rhythms — What’s the point of living Jewishly? What ideas, beliefs, and practices are involved? This course examines a wide variety of Jewish sources to discover the deeper meanings underlying Jewish holidays, lifecycle observances and Jewish practice.
  
  
• Purposes — Why do Jews believe as they do? What are the big questions of life and how do Jewish thinkers answer these questions? This course explores sources both ancient and modern in pursuit of answers to many of the major issues of Jewish thought and theology.

Classes are offered on either Monday mornings, 9 to 11:15 a.m., or Monday evenings, 7 to 9 p.m. beginning Sept. 12 for 30 weeks. All classes take place at the Springfield JCC, Neal Webber Building, 1160 Dickinson St.

The instructors are Rabbi Amy Wallk Katz, Dalia Davis and Shoshana Zonderman.

The cost of the program is $360 if paid in advance or three payments of $130 each. Financial subsidies are available, upon request.

Classes are filling up quickly, so those who are interested are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
