Papermaking at the Children's Museum

Learn the art of papermaking at the Children's Museum in Holyoke

HOLYOKE Did you ever meet a vatman who could use a mould and deckle? Where better to learn the art of papermaking than here at the Children's Museum in the "Paper City." The kids will be up to their elbows in pulp and learn reams about paper history while creating their own handmade paper to take home.

This is just one of the twelve NEW programs geared for campers, scout groups and preschoolers that the Children's Museum at Holyoke is offering this summer. There are a host of program possibilities to appeal to all those curious, creative science sleuth youths of all ages (4 and up) in your groups including:

geology detectives,

boat building,

animal adaptations and

fashioning fishes

Kids will love the hands-on, minds-on focus of all these activities and on top of that fun they can spend the other half of their visit in the Children's Museum exploring the exhibits.

The Museum is uniquely positioned along the first of three canals that connect the City of Holyoke with the Connecticut River at the heart of downtown Holyoke in an eight-acre Heritage State Park. We're experts at teaching about the science and art of water - after all we've been educating children for 25 years. While you bring your groups to enrich their summer experience and enhance their visit to the Children's Museum you can take advantage of the park outside our front door - there's room for a picnic in the park, a game of tag on the green, a visit to the Holyoke Merry-Go-Round and the Volleyball Hall of Fame - four great destinations in one great location! Come spend the day!

So if you wanna meet a vatman and use a mould and deckle come explore the Children's Museum at Holyoke. It's right in your backyard!

These special summer programs are offered Tuesday - Friday in July and August. We can accommodate all programs for age, ability. Advanced registration is required - to book this program-visit package, add a program to an already scheduled visit and for a complete list of summer group offerings, please call our program and education office at 536-7048.
