'Piecemeal The Frankenstein Musical' to fill stage at Majestic Theater

Date: 10/21/2009

WEST SPRINGFIELD "Piecemeal The Frankenstein Musical" by Howard Odentz is the second production in the Theater Project's 12th season in residence at the Majestic Theater.

The play, described as imaginative, dark and funny, takes a new look at Mary Shelley's classic novel about the events leading to the creation of the Frankenstein monster and runs Oct. 29 to Dec. 6.

The plot follows Igor, the hunchbacked son of the local undertaker, who yearns to be a doctor. He crosses paths with Victor Frankenstein, who is expected to uphold family tradition and attend medical school, but wants to pursue a career in fashion instead. Frankenstein and Igor swap identities, and complications ensue.

Theater Project Founder Danny Eaton is directing the play, and several Theater Project veterans have been cast, including Luis Manzi ("Golf," "Brimstone"), Frank Aronson ("Guys on Ice," "Driving Miss Daisy"), Jaime Taber ("Bus Stop," "The Great American Trailer Park Musical"), David Volin ("El Grande Coca Cola," "The Great American Trailer Park Musical"), Lori Efford ("Anthem," "Blues in the Night"), and John Losito ("John & Paul").

The remainder of the 12th Season at the Majestic is as follows: "Almost, Maine" (January 7 to Feb. 14), "A Man For All Seasons" (Feb. 25 to April 3) and "The Fantasticks" (April 15 to May 23).

Tickets for "Piecemeal" and all other shows are available by visiting or calling the Majestic Theater Box Office at 747-7797 during its hours of operation, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The box office and theater are located at 131 Elm St. Ticket prices have been held at last year's rate of $19 to $25 per seat.

The Theater Project is a non-profit company that Eaton founded in 1991. Since March 1997 it has been in residence in West Springfield's historic Majestic Theater, a century-old venue.
