'Read Aloud' lecture set for Sept. 30

Date: 9/20/2010

SPRINGFIELD Jim Trelease, author of The Read Aloud Handbook, will help Springfield School Volunteers kick off the 25th year of their Read Aloud program, sponsored by Babson Capital Management, with a dynamic presentation on Sept. 30 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Community Room of the Springfield City Library on State Street.

In this informative and entertaining lecture, Trelease will discuss the importance and educational value of reading aloud to children.

Since writing his million-copy bestseller, The Read-Aloud Handbook, in 1982, Trelease has traveled to all 50 states and abroad, advocating the benefits of reading aloud to children.

In doing so, he's won the applause of both teachers and parents for his pleas on behalf of literacy efforts that call for "pain" and more focus on turning books into friends, not enemies.
