SeniorNet Computer Center offers classes in the New Year

SPRINGFIELD — The SeniorNet Computer Center at the Springfield Jewish Community Center offers monthly help to adults who want to learn new or enhance their existing computer skills.

The One-on-One Help Workshop continues Jan. 13, 2012 and the Genealogy Club on Jan. 20, 2012.

Computer Basics for Beginners is an eight-hour course (two hours, twice a week for two weeks).

Learn the vocabulary of computers, how to use the mouse, and basic word processing. The course takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 17 to Jan. 26, 2012.

Photo Editing is a 16-hour course (two hours, twice a week for for weeks). Using Photoshop Elements 8, learn to edit scanned and digital photos. Eliminate dark photos, crop to your preferred size, remove scratches and more.

The course will be offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m., Jan. 16 to Feb. 8, 2012.

Exploring Windows 7 is an eight-hour course (two hours, twice a week for two weeks). Learn to work with Windows. Personalize desktop, learn about control panel, store and discover files and folders, and handle software and more. Classes meet from 1 to 3 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays from Jan. 16 to Jan. 25, 2011.

One-on-One Workshop will take place on Jan. 13, 2012 from 10 a.m. to noon and continue every second Friday of the month except February and March.

This workshop is designed to help with problems and questions. Sessions are one-on-one, for the participant and a volunteer problem solver.

No hardware will be fixed, but help will be provided with software questions, techniques, control panel issues and much more.

Call or email by Jan. 6, 2012 to reserve a time and to state the problem or question to assure that a knowledgeable volunteer will be available.

First session is free and subsequent sessions are free for SeniorNet members; minimal suggested donation for others.

Genealogy Club will meet on Jan. 20, 2012 at 9 a.m.

Genealogy Club is free for those who are researching their family genealogy or are interested in starting their family search. This group and their instructor will discuss their research and provide information on their searches. This is open to all who completed the genealogy class or those who are interested in genealogy.

Please note that a minimum number for all classes is five students. The course will be cancelled and/or rescheduled if there are not five paid registrants.

All classes take place at the SeniorNet Computer Center at Springfield Jewish Community Center, 1160 Dickinson St.
