Springfield Library ready to keep kids amused over holiday break

SPRINGFIELD Kids and their families are invited to the Springfield City Library for some fun vacation week activities during the December vacation week. All activities are presented free of charge. All Springfield City Library locations will be closed Dec. 24 - 25 in observance of Christmas.

Activities offered are as follows:

Dec. 26:

  • Scavenger Hunt! Come in any time between 2 and 4 p.m. for a small prize. Central Branch, 220 State St.; 263-6828 ext. 201.

  • Backyard Winter Story and Craft. Join us for some snowy stories and a craft at 3:30 p.m. at the Brightwood Branch, 359 Plainfield St.; 263-6805, or at the East Springfield Branch, 21 Osborne Terr.; 263-6840. Recommended for children up to age 12.

  • Holiday Film Showing. Indian Orchard Branch, 44 Oak St., 4:45 p.m.; 263-6846.

  • Drop-in Crafts Activities. Brightwood, Mason Square (765 State St.; 263-6853) and East Springfield branches, 3 - 5 p.m.

    Dec. 27:

  • Backyard Winter Story and Craft. Join us for some snowy stories and a craft at 3:30 p.m. at the Liberty Branch, 773 Liberty St. Recommended for children up to age 12.

  • Poem Party! Fun for the whole family. Hear some poetry and try writing or performing your own. Central Branch, 2 p.m. Recommended for ages 9 and up.

  • Drop-in Crafts Activities. Pine Point Branch, 3 - 7 p.m. 204 Boston Rd.; 263-6855.

    Dec. 28:

  • Games Day! Come in any time between 2 and 4 p.m. and play some games, eat a snack and have some fun! Central Branch.

  • Welcome 2008 by designing your own New Year's message magnet card and take a chance on an exciting door prize at the Indian Orchard Branch from 1 - 3 p.m.

  • Chess Afternoon: Drop by the Forest Park Branch to match wits or learn some new chess moves. 3 - 5 p.m.

    Dec. 29:

  • Drop-in Crafts Activities. Sixteen Acres Branch, 11 - 3 p.m., 204 Boston Rd.; 263-6855. Central Branch Children's Room, 2 - 5 p.m.

    Dec. 31:

  • Ring in the New Year with noisemakers at the Central Branch Library's party on Dec. 31 at 2 p.m. Make and eat some party snacks you could use to plan your own party.
