Springfield Museums to host LittleFest of Storytelling

SPRINGFIELD The City Library is presenting the following programs.

The Springfield City Library will host "LittleFest of Storytelling V" on Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in collaboration with the Springfield Museums. All library programs are free; museum activities are free for Springfield residents. Activities planned for outdoors will be held inside if it rains.

The multi-cultural festival of storytelling is for preschoolers and their families, and is sponsored by Cherish Every Child, an initiative of the Irene E. and George A. Davis Foundation; the Springfield City Library; WGBY Public Television for Western New England; and the Springfield Museums.

Families are invited to join us for the following activities:

Performances:

10 - 10:15 a.m., 11 - 11:15 a.m., noon - 12:15 p.m., 1 - 1:15 p.m. Visit with Buddy the Dinosaur from the PBS show "Dinosaur Train"(Central Library Rotunda), presented by WGBY.

10:15 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:15 p.m. Circle of Songs by Hugh Hanley, a nationally known early childhood educator and musical entertainer. Join him for a sing-along/play-along concert for young children and their families (Central Library Community Room).

11:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. Omakase: Many Cultures/Many Tales by Mark Binder. Binder will share folk tales and original stories that reflect the melting pot; there will be stories from around the world (Quadrangle Green).

Ongoing activities:

10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation will give out free children's books to the public (Quadrangle Tent).

10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Information Fair Learn more about wonderful services and programs available to families with young children (Quadrangle Tent).

Noon - 3:45 p.m. Art Activities (Central Library Children's Room).

The Central Library and the Springfield Museums are located at the Quadrangle at 220 State St. Free parking is available in the State Street or the Edwards Street parking lots. Library programs are free; museum admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and college students, $5 for children three to 17, and free for children under three and museum members. Springfield residents are free with proof of residency.

Join us for old favorite stories, welcome some new ones, and enjoy special themed storytimes at the East Springfield Branch Library. The popular pajama storytimes for little ones, from 6:30 to 7 p.m., has been extended.

The library host little ones on five additional Wednesdays: Sept. 2, 16 and 30, and Oct. 7 and 21. Perfect for children ages three to eight, with no advance registration necessary. Be sure to bring along your favorite stuffed animal to hold while you listen to some great bedtime stories.
