Storrowton Village Museum seeks volunteers

Date: 7/12/2011

WEST SPRINGFIELD — Eastern States Exposition’s Storrowton Village Museum is extending an invitation to adults and teenagers who are interested in discovering the rich heritage of New England and sharing that knowledge with others.

Volunteers are needed to act as hosts, conducting guided tours of the village’s historic buildings during this year’s Big E, Sept. 16 to Oct. 2 and to work in the Village Gift Shop during the Fair. Training sessions for prospective volunteers begin Aug. 24.

Dressed in Early American-inspired apparel, village volunteers will give fairgoers a glimpse of New England’s past while interpreting the roles of 19th century New Englanders. They will gain a wealth of knowledge about crafts, food and daily life of the era while participating in the excitement of The Big E.

The Big E provides parking and admission for volunteers on-duty as well as a 25 percent discount on items purchased at the Storrowton Village Gift Shop. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to attend the staff field trip, picnic and the annual Big E staff party. A recognition luncheon will be held for those who have donated more than 75 hours of service during the year.

Volunteers enjoy the interaction with the public and other village volunteers and often find the friendships they make with people who share a common interest the most memorable part of their commitment to this important village experience.
