WWLP anchor to moderate annual Academic WorldQuest competion

SPRINGFIELD The World Affairs Council of Western Massachusetts has announced that Jackie Brousseau, morning anchor and reporter for 22News on WWLP, will serve as moderator for the fourth annual Academic WorldQuest competition, taking place Jan. 24 at Western New England College at 2 p.m.

Academic WorldQuest is an international affairs quiz featuring 10 rounds of 10 questions, each on a variety of topics including Current Events, Globalization, Transnational Crime, Alternative Fuels and Population in Developing Countries, open to student teams representing Springfield public high schools. The event is free and the public is welcome to attend. For more information please call the World Affairs Council office at 733-0110.

Eight Springfield public high schools are registered to field teams this year, including returning champion Early College High School, a Springfield public school program based at Holyoke Community College. The winning team will go on to represent the council and the region at a national competition hosted by the World Affairs Councils of America at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., on April 4.

The World Affairs Council of Western Massachusetts has been sending Springfield student teams to participate in the national Academic WorldQuest competition since 2004 and they have hosted a local competition to choose that team since 2006. Previous moderators have included then-Massachusetts Senate Majority Leader Brian Lees, WFCR News Director Jill Kaufman and State Sen. Gale Candaras.
