Golden Years Home Care success reflects growth of industryDate: 10/30/2019 EAST LONGMEADOW – The move to East Longmeadow and the renovation of the former Ski Haus building in the center of the town is an indication of the growth in in-home care programs and Golden Years Home Care Services.
The founder of the company, Cesar Ruiz, Jr., told Reminder Publishing the company had outgrown its offices in Longmeadow and sought to find its own building. He attributed the growth to “hard work, grace, gratitude and blessings.”
The company has 362 caregivers and 347 clients, Ruiz said. The purpose of the company’s services is to keep seniors in their homes by providing caregivers who help the clients with everyday tasks. The company can provide hourly care or 24/7 multiple shift care. A program can be designed for a client for either temporary or long term care, and has a specialization in dementia care.
When the Medicare Advantage programs began covering in–home care for seniors, the injured and the disabled, the industry expanded, Ruiz explained. He believes that field will “continue to always have very strong growth.”
Ruiz explained, “It’s more economical to keep seniors at home instead of institutions,”
The catalyst for the three-year-old business, Ruiz explained, was the care his family had to provide for his father and grandfather. He recalled the experiences were challenges for this family. The business was formed to “fill in the void of the lacks of quality care.”
Ruiz said that one of the hallmarks in the care they offer is an emphasis of incorporating laughter, music and aromatherapy into the care plan for the client.
“Laughter is always a challenge. You have to get out of your comfort zone,” he said, adding those three elements are “unique” to the company. Ruiz noted, “We want our caregivers engaged.”
Another different aspect is the “checks and balances” the company maintains in the management of the caregivers. Ruiz said there is a monthly assessment of each caregiver.
“It’s an additional cost we incur for client safety and continuity,” Ruiz explained. “We want to be sure the health plan is being followed.”
Speaking about the caregivers, Ruiz acknowledged the job is a difficult one.
“This business is not for everyone. You have to have the DNA of love, compassion; you have to have it within you. It’s a challenge.”
Walking through the building, Ruiz showed the renovations to the company’s new home.
“It’s actually three buildings,” Ruiz noted. The location gives the company room to grow, which is what Ruiz plans to do by offering a variety of related services.
The second phase of the company’s renovations to the building starts next month.
“We take our mission very seriously,” Ruiz said.
