LONGMEADOW – On Dec. 4, members of the Bay Path College Performing Arts Department will once again present its Winterfest show.

“We think it’s going to be a wonderful evening. It always is,” Michael Rheault, director of performing arts activities and musical director of Winterfest told Reminder Publications. “We had a wonderful performance last year and I think this year is going to be the same or even better.”

The production, put together by Rheault with the help of Fred Sokol, director of the Theatre Arts Program, will take place at Mills Theatre, located in Carr Hall on the school’s Longmeadow campus at 7 p.m. It is open to the public and free of charge.

“It’s a performance event that deals with the winter season and the holidays,” he said.

Winterfest is part of the school’s Kalaeidoscope series, which provides cultural and educational enrichment opportunities for the community with monetary support from PeoplesBank.

Rheault explained that the hour-long program would provide audiences with a multitude of artistic styles that would all be melded together.

“It’s a combination of song and dance and recitation – usually poetry. Sometimes the song and dance are combined, sometimes the reading and dance is combined,” he said. “We try to mix it up and create a variety.”

Musical numbers include choral singing as well as solo vocalists, while dance numbers will range from solos and duos to a large performance from the Bay Path Dance Company.

As in years past, all of the program’s performances, Rheault said, would center around a single theme.

“The theme this year is joy, so we try to program the material around that theme, including winter and holidays” he said. “We try to keep the theme relevant to what would typically be thought of around the holidays.”
