Summer Enrichment Program presents plays

LONGMEADOW -- The students of the 2006 Longmeadow summer enrichment program will present the following plays. July 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m. the Children's Summer Theater pupils will present "The Wizard of Oz."

July 28 at 7:30 p.m. the students of "Show Biz Kids" will present "The Cheese Stands Alone."

All productions will take place on the stage of the Longmeadow High School auditorium, are free of charge and open to the public.



Important dates for students, teachers and parents

The following are upcoming important dates for the Longmeadow School Department:

Aug.23 - New Teacher Orientation

Aug. 29 - Opening Day for Staff

Sept. 5 - First Day of School for Students Grades 1-12

Sept. 8 - First Day of School for Kindergarten

The Finance Subcommittee meets most Thursdays at 7a.m.

Parks and Recreation pool passes

The Longmeadow Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce that season passes to our two outdoor pools, located at Bliss and Greenwood Parks, will be pro-rated beginning July 24.The prices will be as follows: Individual resident $30; Individual non-resident $42.20; Household resident (4-6 members) $100; Household non-resident $183.

Daily admissions will continue to be $9 for residents and $11 for non-residents with all admissions after 5:00pm at only $5.

What's "Buzzin' "at Storrs Library?

Join us for BUG TALES featuring Sparky's Puppets, a puppet program on Aug. 1, from 11 to 11:45 a.m. for parents and children age 3 and older. Tickets are available one week in advance.

On Aug. 2, at 10:30 a.m. buzz your way to the library for our HONEY BEE PARTY; come with your blankets for summer time stories and activities. Rain or shine children ages 2 and above along with their parents or caregivers are invited to pick up tickets one week in advance of this program.

Take a reading adventure with NO FLEAS PLEASE! a Storytime and craft program on Aug.3, from 10 to 10: 45 a.m. especially for preschoolers ages two to five.Toddlers and their parents may take part in this program where our Summer Readers and the Assistant Youth Service Librarian will read stories and enjoy a craft activity.Tickets are available one week in advance.

Come to BABY BUGS PLAYGROUP, on Aug. 4, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. This is a drop in program and no registration is required. Join us for a program of simple books, finger plays, songs and play. BABY BUGS PLAYGROUP is planned for parents and their children who are ages 6 to 30 months.

The summer reading program "WHAT'S BUZZIN' AT YOUR LIBRARY?" weekly raffle will be at 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 4 at 2:30 p.m.

Sparky's Puppets dramatize favorite children's stories with lively humor and plenty of audience participation.They have delighted children and family audiences throughout New England for over 25 years.This show was created for the library's summer reading program: WHAT'S BUZZIN' AT YOUR LIBRARY? "BUG TALES" is designed for children ages 3 to 10 and their parents.

Although this event is free to the public, tickets are need and will be available one week in advance of the program by visiting the Philip Michael Lauro Discovery Room at the Library or calling 565-4182.
