Longmeadow offers senior services program

Date: 12/5/2008

LONGMEADOW Seniors who meet the eligibility criteria and contribute 100 hours of volunteer work authorized under the program will receive a "Senior Citizen Property Tax Abatement" of $675.

Eligible seniors must be 60 years old at the time of application and meet the same income eligibility criteria as the guidelines for the "Senior Circuit Breaker" state income tax credit. Applications will be accepted through Dec. 19 with volunteer service starting in Jan. 2009 and running through Dec. 1, 2009. All hours to be credited must be completed by Dec. 1, 2009 in order for the abatement to be processed on the FY 2010 tax bill.

Applications and detailed program guidelines are available at the Longmeadow Adult Center, 231 Maple Rd., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m, Monday through Friday.
