Long Range Plan discussion focuses on high school

LONGMEADOW In May 2000, Longmeadow's Long Range Planning Committee was formed to develop a plan to guide the town's physical development and provision of municipal services. The plan is made up of environmental and resource protection, town services and community life, housing, economic development and transportation.

Seven years later goals for the improvement of these five elements are still being discussed and implemented. Paul Santaniello and Kathleen Grady of the Select Board met with the town's Planning Board a few weeks ago to continue this discussion.

"We spoke in general terms with the Planning Board and brought up the high school/MSBA update and that we should all take a look at what our options are now rather than a compressed time frame at some point in the future," Santaniello told Reminder Publications. "We also spoke of working more closely with the Planning Board of things like the Long Range Plan and the betterment of Longmeadow."

An open dialogue is another goal of the Long Range Plan, according to Santaniello.

"The idea of the conversations is just that -- to have conversations now and not just when we need to. It helps create a better understanding of how each of our boards think."

Discussion of the plan will be ongoing.
