LONGMEADOW — A "Get Out the Vote" rally for Rep. Ed Markey featuring Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, which was slated to take place on June 9 at Longmeadow High School, has been moved.

Markey is running for U.S. Senate against Republican Gabriel Gomez in a special election, which will take place on June 25.

Selectman Marie Angelides, a Republican, told Reminder Publications the event, which was sponsored by the Markey campaign and not the Longmeadow Democratic Town Committee, would not take place at the high school.

Michael Clark, chair of the School Committee, confirmed that statement, explaining that the superintendent made the decision this morning to ask the Markey campaign not to use the high school.

He declined to comment on the reasoning behind the decision, referring those questions to Doyle's office.

Doyle was not immediately available for comment, but representatives of her office confirmed that the rally would not take place in Longmeadow. Instead, they said, the event was moved to the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 63, located at 32 Stevens Street in Springfield.

Angelides said public outcry regarding the use of a public school building for political purposes as well as the fact that the rally was set for the same day as the Longmeadow High School graduation, which takes place at Springfield's Symphony Hall, were contributing factors.
