Runs for Moderator

Kallock cites experience during campaign

LONGMEADOW Michael N. Kallock of Longmeadow announced last week his candidacy for the position of Moderator in the June elections for the town of Longmeadow.

A resident of Longmeadow for the past nine years, Kallock previously resided in the town of West Springfield for approximately 35 years. In that town he was active locally, serving as a Town Meeting member, on the Board of Library Trustees, on Finance Committee and as Town Prosecutor.

Kallock also served as that town's elected Moderator for 12 years.

Reflecting on that experience Kallock noted, "The Moderator's job is a difficult one by nature, prone to criticism, and is always at the center of the discussion under consideration at Town Meeting. "The ability to keep the debate moving and be ever at the ready to quickly rule on procedural matters is a valuable attribute in a Moderator. I am running for Moderator to bring the knowledge and experience attained in that job to promote the running of Town Meeting in Longmeadow in an efficient and informed manner. "

Kallock continued, "I have great regard for Moderator Ron Hastie, who appointed me to the Longmeadow By-Laws Review Committee in 2004. I was grateful for the opportunity to serve the town in that capacity.

"It gave me the opportunity to read all of our by-laws and work with the other members of the Committee to bring them into conformity with our Charter.

"If given the opportunity by the voters, my experience as Moderator, legal background and familiarity with our rule book for town meetings, Town Meeting Time, I will serve the town very well."

A practicing attorney for 25 years, Kallock graduated from Boston University in 1974 and Howard University School of Law, Washington, D.C. in 1981.

He formerly served as an assistant district attorney for both Matthew J. Ryan, Jr. and William M. Bennett. He maintains a private law office in West Springfield.

He is married to the former Carrie O'Herron and has one son, Conor, in the sixth grade.
